Colon Detoxification: Which Method Should You Choose

By: Michael Russell

Article Word Count: 500

These days, more and more Americans are becoming conscious of detoxifying their internal organs - particularly the colon. It has been said that death begins in the colon as the origin of several diseases and ailments can be traced to unhealthy intestines. Many health-conscious individuals are seeking to counter this reality. Colon detoxification has become a popular way to prevent and alleviate constipation, lose weight, and improve general health among other things. There are several different methods for detoxifying the colon: colon hydrotherapy, enemas, laxatives, herbal colon cleansers, and oxygen-based colon cleansing. Some of these methods are safer and more effective than others. In this article, we’ll discuss each method so you can determine which one is best for you.

First, we’ll discuss colon hydrotherapy. In this method, warm, filtered water is gently streamed into the colon through a plastic tube that is inserted into the anal canal. Colon hydrotherapy only cleanses the large intestine. Using this method with an oxygen-based cleanser can eliminate toxins from both the small and large intestines over time. Colon hydrotherapy should only be carried out by a certified or licensed professional. There are systems available for home use, but they are best used in addition to the professional procedure.

Next, we’ll discuss enemas. Enemas make most people uneasy because they require you to insert a tube into your rectum. In this method, a small amount of liquid is placed into the rectum. Enemas can be effective for relieving constipation but don’t provide any lasting results for detoxification.

Laxatives are another method often sought for colon detoxification. This is perhaps the most ineffective of all methods because laxatives do not remove compacted fecal matter. Instead, they only soften the stool and relax the intestinal muscles. Laxatives can also cause dehydration and are not recommended for chronic conditions.

Herbal cleansers are one of the more effective methods for colon detoxification. Most herbal colon cleansers contain psyllium husks. They are taken orally and usually mixed with liquid. Herbal cleansers are also relatively inexpensive. Some brands don’t actually remove compacted fecal matter while others do. The varieties which contain a proprietary blend of psyllium husks and other natural ingredients are most effective.

Lastly, oxygen-based colon cleansers are another great method for colon detoxification. These are also typically taken orally in capsules. Oxygen-based cleansers are so named because they use oxygen to remove toxins and compacted fecal matter. They’ve been proven to be effective in alleviating constipation and maintaining overall colon health. In addition, oxygen based cleansers work well with colon hydrotherapy.

As you can see, there are several options available when it comes to colon detoxification. Ridding the colon of toxins and compacted fecal matter is one of the best things you can do to improve overall health. Colon hydrotherapy, enemas, laxatives, herbal colon cleansers, and oxygen-based colon cleansers all have their own distinctive characteristics. Determine which method is best for you and research it even further. You’re certain to find something that is both safe and effective.
