Colon Detoxification - The Basics

By: Michael Russell

Article Word Count: 607

The colon plays an important role in the body's detoxification. The colon stores the waste from the body and also eliminates it. Fecal matter can get stuck on the walls of the colon. The colon can also accumulate too many toxins. These toxins can come from the water or food supply. In this case, you have to use detoxification methods to cleanse the colon. If you do not use a detoxification method for the colon, you can suffer from fatigue, depression, constipation, or a skin disorder.

There are many things that you can do to eliminate toxins from your colon. One technique that is used for colon detoxification is known as colon irrigation. This technique cleanses the colon by flushing several gallons of water through the colon. The water will reach about eight feet into the colon. The water will remove all of the fecal material and toxins in the colon. This detoxification process will also make nutrient absorption and waster removal more efficient. This procedure will last for about one hour. After the procedure is over, the majority of patients will feel refreshed and lighter.

If you combine colon irrigation with the right diet, you can alleviate the symptoms of any condition that may have been caused by the toxins. The diet should consist of plenty of water. A drink that has been beneficial to the detoxification of the colon has been herbal tea. One example of an effective herbal tea consists of bentonite or liquid clay, psyllium husk powder and ground flax seeds. No one knows for sure how a person will react after having one of these herbal teas. Some people will get more benefits from it than others. You should ask your doctor what diet is right for you.

The diet should also consist of vegetables and fruits. These vegetables and fruits contain enzymes, which aids in digestion and detoxification. It is best to eat vegetables and fruits between meals because the enzymes will be used for detoxification and not digestion. Bowel cleansing can be aided with enzymes. The addition of enzymes makes the content of the bowels more liquid, which allows the bowels to move more quickly and easily. This means that toxins will be eliminated more efficiently.

Some of our bowel flora is lost during the colon detoxification process. The bowel flora must be replenished because it plays an important role in the colon detoxification process. The bowel flora also protects us from bacteria and manufactures vitamins, such as B vitamins. There are probiotics that contain Bifidus and Lactobacillus acidophilus that can help replenish our supply of bowel flora. Making these probiotics a part of your diet will enhance the detoxification process.

You can help the detoxification process with the addition of antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E. Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals, which are responsible for damaging cells and mutations. Vitamins A and E can be found in fat tissue. Vitamin C is found in our skin. Vitamin C has also been effective in treating cancer. A low supply of antioxidants can impede the detoxification process and lower your energy level. If the detoxification process slows down, toxins will accumulate. The lack of energy will also slow down the removal of toxins. Vitamin C is the most important vitamin to the detoxification process. It is the most important because your body uses the energy it gets from Vitamin C to eliminate toxins. To maximize the benefits of Vitamin C on the detoxification process, they should be taken with bioflavinoids.
